This class will examine a selection of his best shorter works in order to arrive at an understanding and appreciation of the distinctive “Hemingway style,” which has strongly influenced subsequent generations of writers. Indeed, it was in his short stories that many of his most ground-breaking innovations first appeared. Yet, though lesser known, his shorter fiction is equally accomplished. The two countries are vastly different, but both have fascinating natural areas to explore beyond their coastal cities.
